Just wanted to wish everyone well this holiday season!  Looking forward to a much more productive 2009.  I'm going to be spending the next couple of weeks making a plan for 2009, which I hope to share right after the new year.

Thanks to everyone for your support in the past, and hope to have lots more fun in the future!

John.

Everyone, meet Kenji Miyata!!!!!!!!!

by John 10/3/2008 9:27:00 AM
Oh, I'm so happy and excited I can't stand myself! If you read the "about your host" page, you might remember that I was in a band in Japan in the early 80's...The lead guitar in that band is awesome!!!  He was absolutely amazing then, and I'm sure that now he's even more accomplished!  I bring this up because just yesterday, we reconnected via MySpace!!!!!  I had been searching for years, but was unable to come up with the right combination of search criteria to find my friend.  He must have gotten it right though, because there it was...DUDE!!!!!!!!  It's Kenji!!!!!!!  I'm so stoked I can't sit still!!!!  I can't wait until we get a chance to catch up, and hear what's been going on since our paths diverged.  I wanted to share my excitement, so Everyone!!!!  Meet Kenji!!!!

Reader's Digest thinks I'm stupid.

by John 9/26/2008 10:39:00 AM

So, I’m really annoyed (well, I’m way more than annoyed, but I’m not sure who reads this, so I’ll keep it clean) at Readers Digest.  Yeah…that’s right…I said it…Readers Digest has made me angry.  A coworker dropped a copy of the Sept 2008 RD on my desk, opened to a cute little article titled “13 things your computer person won’t tell you”.  After I read the article, I was incensed.  There’s a “7 more things” follow up.  So, if you haven’t read the piece, feel free to do that now…I’ll wait.

Back?  Excellent!  See, the first item in their list is “turn it off, turn it back on”.  I don’t know what j@ck@55 they talked to, but it’s the mantra of every support tech I’ve ever known…Seriously…every single support tech I’ve ever met chants ”did you reboot the machine?” in their sleep.

It seems like every single item in the RD list isn’t something your tech never tells you…it’s a list of things you’ve probably been told a thousand times by every tech you ever talked to.  “Check the cables”, “do backups”, for crying out loud.  This is like saying “your family doctor will never tell you to get a regular checkup”.

This reads like RD thinks I’m a complete a total moron.  Hey…it may be true, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to take offense!
