So, I’m really annoyed (well, I’m way more than annoyed, but
I’m not sure who reads this, so I’ll keep it clean) at Readers Digest. Yeah…that’s right…I said it…Readers Digest
has made me angry. A coworker dropped a
copy of the Sept 2008 RD on my desk, opened to a cute little article titled “13
things your computer person won’t tell you”.
After I read the article, I was incensed. There’s a “7 more things” follow up. So, if you haven’t read the piece, feel free
to do that now…I’ll wait.
Back? Excellent! See, the first item in their list is “turn it
off, turn it back on”. I don’t know what
j@ck@55 they talked to, but it’s the mantra of every support tech I’ve ever
known…Seriously…every single support tech I’ve ever met chants ”did you reboot
the machine?” in their sleep.
It seems like every single item in the RD list isn’t something
your tech never tells you…it’s a list of things you’ve probably been told a
thousand times by every tech you ever talked to. “Check the cables”, “do backups”, for crying
out loud. This is like saying “your
family doctor will never tell you to get a regular checkup”.
This reads like RD thinks I’m a complete a total moron. Hey…it may be true, but that doesn’t mean I’m
not going to take offense!
